Amish Chicken, often a creamy, oven-baked dish or pan-fried meal, originated in the Pennsylvania Dutch Country as simple, “stick-to-your-ribs” farm cooking designed for large families. Today, the dish is a staple of Amish restaurants and home cooking, particularly in Pennsylvania and Ohio communities.

I found the original recipe that I base my Amish Chicken on while web surfing for recipes for my Instapot. It was on 365 Days of Slow Cooking (pictured above), and since it looked easy, I took a stab at it! My version is different because it’s made with one of my favorite food: Mushrooms! After trying it once: I was hooked! I made the recipe my own and serve it over Zoodles as a more healthy option. My friend, who is a diabetic, loves this healthier alternative so much that she said she’d eat it for breakfast, lunch and inner and never get tired of it.
For those that don’t know: Zoodles are nutrient-rich, low-calorie, and gluten-free noodles made from spiralized or sliced zucchini. They are a popular, low-carb alternatives to pasta, containing about 18 calories and 4g of carbohydrates per cup. Key preparation methods for zoodles include using a spiralizer, julienne peeler, or mandoline, followed by sautéing briefly (1–2 minutes) to prevent them from becoming soggy. I make mine with both zucchini and yellow squash.
Amish Chicken Ingredients in My Recipe (Note in case of ALLERGIES): Boneless chicken thighs or breast, mushrooms, onion, garlic, dill weed, sour cream, and lemon juice. Served over rice, riced cauliflowers, a Zoodle Medley, or potatoes.
Though My Amish Chicken Recipe is different from the Instant Pot Amish Chicken Recipe shared below, I’m passing it along for you to try it! So let me know how yours turned out in the comments below! OR you can order it from me the next time it’s offered on My Menu.
